Formerly known as St. Helen’s Young Wives Club, the group was formed in 1962 following a cheese and wine party held at the Rectory by Mrs Stanford. The name was later changed to St.Helen’s Ladies Group to help encourage women of all ages to join.
The group is interdenominational, and new members are always made welcome. The annual subscription is at present £7 and meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month in the Sir Joseph Whitworth Room of the Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale.
Donations have been made over the years to many well known causes at both National and local level and have included: The Ambulance Heart Start Appeal, The Northern General Hospital, The Whitworth Hospital, Barnardo’s, The Crossroads Care Scheme, Ashgate Hospice, Cystic Fibrosis, The Victim Support Scheme, The Across Trust, Aquabox, the Tsunami Appeal and The Mission Aviation Fellowship.
